Since decades before the founding of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the plight of African American males in the United States has been challenging. A clarion call to greater action has been sounded and Alpha Phi Alpha must respond with renewed vigor and sharper vision as we confront these issues.
To turn the tide from steps of retreat to leaps of progress will require that we commit ourselves to Excellence Without Exception: Every Brother, Every Chapter.

Although we can point to a variety of social ills as the root of the hardships that Black males are facing today, it is my belief that the common denominator in whether we fail or succeed is education. Education is the key to better opportunity and a better way of life for all of us.

Two-pronged approach: A-PLUS and Alpha's Strategic Plan

As President of Delta Lambda, Brother Johnson presents an award to a member of the chapter.

(1) We must engage in a renewed focus and establish a fresh approach to our national educational initiatives because we know that school completion is the single best predictor of future economic success. I suggest that this will require the fraternity to be a voice, to take action, and to collaborate with other prominent national groups that are aggressively addressing educational, economic and other social issues specifically relating to Black males.
To stimulate interest and participation, I propose that we adopt a theme called A-PLUS (A+) to support our educational initiative.  A-PLUS stands for “Achieving a Productive Life through Uplift and Service.”
(2) In order for the fraternity to truly achieve excellence, there must be a strategic focus and consistent, effective management of every aspect of the fraternity. Consequently, this section of my platform is aligned with the Alpha Phi Alpha Strategic Plan that was adopted in 2006 and focuses on five critical areas.  My Implementation Plan is based on the following five areas:

1. Program Management
2. Membership Management
3. Communications/Publc Relations and Brand Management
4. Fiscal Management
5. Operations Management

Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, as we begin the process of electing our next General President, I stand on the premise that we must fine tune our focus and move forward strategically with the greatest determination to make this fraternity an agent of positive change for African American men and the black community at large. In fact, this is the essence of our mission – the healing of the African American male; his body, his mind, his spirit! To this end, I offer you a platform of Excellence Without Exception: Every Brother, Every Chapter.
